Golf enthusiasts searching for a top-of-the-mountain experience won’t be disappointed when they play the challenging Bear Lake Golf Club by Nicklaus Design Group®. Offering a par-29, 1,932-yard course at the lofty elevation of 3,400' to 3,700', it has some of the best views in the community. You’re going to have to work hard to concentrate while teeing off on the seventh hole, since you’ll be looking at a breathtaking 80-mile panoramic view of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the valley below. And, because it’s a nine-hole course, you can enjoy a round in the morning and still take the kids for a boat ride before lunch.
Although it’s officially named Bear Creek Lake, everyone calls it “Bear Lake.” This amazing 500-acre lake is situated at an elevation of 2,500 feet and features depths of up to 190 feet deep and summer temperatures of up to 80 degrees. Bear Lake Reserve owns 6 miles of the thirteen mile shoreline, where you can fish trout, small mouth bass, walleye, brim, and sunfish. Boats of all types are welcome.
Burlingame is an Equity Club that began in 1983. Homes and home sites may border on the lake, golf course, or the beautiful mountain views surrounded by the native landscaping. Burlingame has one of the top ranked 18 hole championship golf courses.

The Country Club of Sapphire Valley is a private, member-owned club located in the heart of the Sapphire Valley. It is an idyllic setting among the rolling hills and towering trees of the beautiful Smoky Mountains.
The terrain is fairly flat, but is 3,500 feet above sea level, so you can expect your shots to carry a little farther than normal. Even though the fairways are lined with oak and maple trees, they still afford generous landing areas. Some holes feature dogleg fairways, while others are highlighted by spectacular views of the mountains. In addition, a small creek comes into play on a couple of holes. Guests are only allowed to play the course when accompanied by a club member.

With over 685 secluded acres, the Cullasaja Club of Highlands is a distinctive property, with just 281 homes, for those who choose to live on premise.
The Club, first established in 1987 by Arvida, became a private, member-owned Club in 2000. Today, membership is by invitation only and is capped at 330, keeping our environment serene and creating an ideal golf, tennis, social and fitness club.
The High Hampton Inn & Country Club developed in 1922 sits in a premier location in Cashiers, NC. At 3,600 feet above sea level it assures cool summers for those who visit. Currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places, these 1,400 acres overlook Whiteside Mountain, a lake, and golf course.
Listed in the 100 Best Family Resorts residents and guests are offered tennis, golf, hiking, spa services, a 35-acre private lake for swimming, boating and fishing. The hotel offers rooms at the inn or one may stay in a cottage or an area vacation home. Simple and rustic there are no electronic devices, such as telephones or televisions in the guestrooms. That does not mean that you have to leave your computer or cell phone at home as there is wireless available. Highlands Country Club is one of the area's most prestigious courses found in golf. High above it all at 4,118 feet above sea level, this is truly 'high mountain golf at its best.' Besides top-of-the-line golf, other amenities include tennis, swimming, dining, and a state-of-the-art spa and fitness area.
Stop in at the Hudson House after your favorite game to discuss your shots. Both formal and informal dining can be enjoyed throughout the year. You will often see resident swans enjoying a dip on one of the lakes. Those who are members of the club enjoy the many conveniences that the town of Highlands has to offer. Some of the best food, cultural events, and shopping in the mountains can be found here. There is always a waiting list for this club.

Highlands Falls Country Club is located just outside Highlands making it easy for fabulous dining and interesting shopping. Golfing in the cool North Carolina mountains is a treat to be enjoyed. Wonderful views plus a championship 18-hole par 70 golf course, with greens built to USGA specifications.
Enjoy swimming or play tennis on one of four high quality Har-Tru courts. Workout in a new fully equipped state-of-the-art fitness center. Try your luck fishing on one of the six ponds. A great golf pro shop, fabulous dining and a wide variety of social activities.

Lake Toxaway Country Club Resort dates back to the late 1800s. The full service resort offers an incredible 18-hole golf course, completely redesigned in 2007.
In 2005 the resort opened the Tom Fazio Golf Learning Center offering the state-of-the-art analysis equipment to improve your game as well as a spa and fitness center. Besides a prestigious golf resort, Lake Toxaway is a backdrop on one side and on the other are several mountain ranges from Toxaway Mtn, Panthertail, Ravenrock, Little Panthertail, Hawk Mtn. and Cold Mountain. Lake Toxaway is the largest private lake in North Carolina with 640 acres and 14 miles of shoreline. Across the dam is Lake Cardinal offering a private 95-acre lake for those homes surrounding it. Tennis, exercise facilities, 4th of July parties on the lawn, tennis and golf junior camps....there is something for the entire family. The Greystone Inn and Spa is located on the premises and is open year round. Every night during sunset you will find residents and guests on Lady Lucy enjoying a champagne sunset cruise.
The Lake Toxaway area offers a tight knit community. Every Friday evening you can find folks gathered at the Lake Toxaway Community Center. Great food and local entertainment which might include fiddle playing provides great family fun. Many cultural activities are also held at the Brevard Porter Center at Brevard.College, a 4-year college, less than 30 minutes away.

This Tom Jackson sculpted course is an architectural marvel with inspiring views from elevated tees and greens cascading along the Eastern Continental Divide. Players of all levels enjoy perfect conditioning, warm southern hospitality and superb mountain golf.
Jackson designed the course from the natural topography of the mountain plateau, providing a captivating 18-hole design with an intriguing dual personality. The front side lulls you into a serene mountain valley of greenery and meandering streams. As you approach the turn, a 250 foot ascent delivers you to the 10th tee giving you the feeling of being on top of the world. The next three holes take you around one of the highest ridges of golf on the east coast. Your final descent toward the clubhouse takes you alongside a shear granite cliff on the right-hand side of number 18.

Trillium, just outside Cashiers and on Lake Glenville, is the place to call home if golf and boating are favorite family activities. Just off 107N the Carolina Mountains provide the backdrop to the Morris Hatalsky designed championship golf course.
For those into tennis the Apple Orchard Park 24,600 sq. ft. fitness center includes state-of-the-art exercise equipment plus 3 indoor clay tennis courts for year-round play. The lake plays a major role in the club offering boat slips and rentals and a casual lakeside restaurant and bar. Families are of utmost importance and children have special Friday night get-togethers offering a chance for mom and dad to enjoy dinner at the clubhouse. For those liking a bit more exercise, you can take your clubs to Trillium's sister facility at Chinquapin and play their 9-hole walking course. If your family is wanting more nature oriented living, Chinquapin is limited to 200 home sites on 2,000 acres. On property there are more than 10 miles of hiking trails.
For the avid hiker Panthertown Valley with its 6,000 acres and Nantahala National Forest provide endless new trails to explore. To relax those muscles swim in the heated pool. A croquet court is available, or you might find yourself riding through the mountains on horseback at the Chinquapin stables. The club's main focus is building strong family memories. If you anticipate a weekend visit to the area to check out the club, special rates are available. Advance notice is needed as these rates are limited in quantity.

Wade Hampton Golf Course is often referred to as “Tom Fazio’s Masterpiece”. The course was named as the “Best New Private Course for 1987” by Golf Digest magazine, and is one of only three courses built in the last fifty years to be currently ranked in their top 20 courses in the United States. Golfweek magazine has also recognized the course as the “America’s Best Residential Golf Course”. Measuring 7,302 yards from the back “Fazio” tees, the course is enjoyable and challenging for golfers of many skill levels.
